Musings in Maine (Part 2) PUFFINS and other things!!

Let's put our heads together!

Puffin skipping on the water!

Grey and Harbor Seals!

Yesterday, Brandon and I got to go on an Atlantic Puffin Tour to Machias Seal Island off the Maine coast. We traveled 10 miles out to sea. The island we visited still has a manned lighthouse and a research station. We were able to spend a few hours in a blind where we were surrounded by Atlantic Puffins, Razorbill Auks, Common Murres, and Arctic Turns to name a few. Also, on the neighboring island we found Grey Seals and Harbor Seals. Seeing these sea birds in the wild is an enchanting and once in a lifetime opportunity. The weather was perfect and the birds put on a show! I might put up some more photos as I took over 600.

We drove all day to get to Baxter State Park here in Maine. We hiked Mt. Katahdin then headed out back south. On our way we have seen some really cool things. The pictures of the lighthouse are from Lubec, which is the most eastern part of the USA. We had a lot of fun hanging out on the beach and painting pictures.

Purple Fields

I went home to Alabama around the second week in the month, and on the way down I was mesmerized by the beautiful purple fields. I wanted to try and capture the beauty. :) Even though I rushed I was able to get a few pictures taken.

Thunder Over Louisville

Thunder Over Louisville apparently is a big deal. I wasn't planning on going, because it had rained all day and was supposed to continue that way for the rest of the evening. However, some friends of ours were going, and they decided to take us along. We parked far away and walked and walked and we made it right before it started. I tried to get some shots...I called my dad to get some pointers on taking pictures of fireworks, because it's dark and fire works are fast and bright. He gave me some. However, in the dark and confusion of sounds and people I don't think I followed it. I did mess around a little bit, and I feel like I got a few shots that are presentable. :)

Spencer the Weimaraner Dog

So, the weekends are the time when I can actually go out with my camera and shoot. This weekend, I really didn’t have a subject in mind. My husband and I went with some friends on a hike and they brought a dog. So, I had found my subject. This is a Weimaraner dog…well puppy he is 16 months old. His name is Spencer. He was very rambunctious the entire walk so, not too easy to shoot. What can you expect from a puppy? However, there were a few shots I liked.

I also had some fun playing with Photoshop. This is my first time ever doing anything with Photoshop, so it was a fun learning experience! I really liked the picture of Spencer with the road…but all of the shots had his leash in them. So, I took out the leash. I also changed the saturation of his eyes just a little. When comparing the two photos, you can see where the chain would have been is a little fuzzy with the pattern…but practice makes perfect!!!

Train Trestle at Tioga Falls

Yesterday, my husband and I went to Tioga Falls to enjoy a hike. When we got there we learned it was a muddy mess. On our small walk we came to an old rusty train trestle. I was excited because I was able to get some pretty neat shots of the rust up close. I am beginning to think that these up close shots are pretty cool with all the textures and designs you can find. It was also a good trip for finding symmetry. Overall the trip was muddy, but I had fun with the rust.
